On Thursday evening and Friday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the Traffic Police in Hasakah, in northeastern Syria, conducted a wide campaign that included the withdrawal of irregular tasks from car owners in light of major violations of the lockdown decision as a precautionary measure to confront the outbreak of coronavirus.
The security forces deployed intensively in various neighborhoods in the city of Hasakah after they had closed several vital streets with concrete blocks some days ago, keeping a number of them open for transportation.
Traffic Police also stopped all violators and withdrew driving permits from them, where they gave them back after registering their names and their cars’ specifications, as a final warning for their violations of the lockdown.
Azad Haksah, an official of the Asayish in Hasakah, said to North-Press: “Due to the lack of commitment to decisions by people and the heavy traffic, we were forced to be present and we started the process of arrests and fines starting from SYP 5,000 to SYP 45,000, according to the violation and its repetition.”
He said that they offer lots of facilities for the organizations, charities, health and medical institutions and municipalities which are required to operate in these circumstances.
Azad Haksah added: “We carry out the laws, and impound cars. The goal is to ensure that the violations are not repeated, and not anything else. It is only to warn people to stay at their homes to confront the threat of coronavirus.”
He pointed out that they arrested several persons and impounded several cars for violating the lockdown, and then, they released them and left the cars after several hours, “as a warning to the necessity of commitment.”
Ahmad Mustafa, a resident of Hasakah, said that he went to the market to buy some necessary foodstuffs for his house and that he saw heavy traffic and intensive movement by people, almost naturally.
Mustafa called for the need to stay at home and carry out the decisions issued by the Autonomous Administration, in order not to spread the coronavirus in the region.
During the past few days, the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria witnessed continued violations of the lockdown, as the security forces intensified their patrols to compel the residents to stay in their houses.
