1,800 Syrian refugees return from KRG into north-eastern Syria

Hundreds of Syrian refugees have returned from Barda-Rash camp in Dohuk provin KRG toGovernorate in Kurdistan Region into north-eastern Syria, after they fled their homes and towns as a result of the ongoing Turkish military and its affiliated armed groups’ invasion in northeastern Syria.

The manager of the Relations Bureau at Semalka border-crossing between northeastern Syria and Kurdistan Region, ‌Baz Ahmed told North-Press that the number of refugees who have returned from Barda-Rash camp via Semalka crossing haa reached 1,800 people so far. He also indicated that most of those refugees are from the areas of Derik (Malikiya) and Hasakah, in addition to Sere-Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Qamishli.

He added that the refugees have returned as a result of the deterioration of services in Barda-Rash camp, especially after north-eastern territories have witnessed relative stability.

Ahmed pointed out that the return of the refugees is being coordinated with the administrations of Barda-Rash camp and Semalka crossing, where they allocated the day of Monday of each week for their return.

It is noteworthy that more than 350 thousand civilians were displaced from the areas of Sere-Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tal-Abyad (Gre-Spi), and other sporadic areas of the border strip with Turkey in north-eastern Syria, due to the military invasion that was launched by the Turkish military and its affiliated armed groups. More than 12,000 Syrian-Kurdish refugees who fled into Kurdistan Region, have settled in two camps, Koylan and Barda-Rash.
