Raqqa celebrates Day of Persons with Disabilities amid appeals to save Syrian children

The Safe Childhood Center of Future Makers organizatio, in coordination with the Committee of Social Affairs and Labor, on Tuesday, celebrated the International Day of persons with disabilities, through holding a collection of recreational and cultural activities under the theme "Lammat Amal" (A gathering of hope). More than 100 children with special needs participated in this celebration in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, and performed dancing, theatrical, poetic and singing performances. Wissam Muhammad, psycho-social support trainer at the organization, said that the activities encourage them to integrate into the society.

While Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, a member of the Relief Office of the Social Affairs and Labor Committee appealed to the international community to stop the massacres committed against the Syrian people, saying: "We regret what happened to our brothers and sons in Tal Rifat and call upon all countries of the world to stop the shedding of Syrian blood."

 

Meanwhile, the member of the Legislative Council Abdulfattah al-Aker, condemned the massacre committed in Tal Rifat by the Turkish military, stressing that "the Syrian people are united as one and these massacres against them must stop," he said.
Moreover, Issa al-Salmu, representative of al-Farouq School in Raqqa, said: "People with disabilities are an effective part of the society, so they must be rehabilitated and trained, where history is full of great persons with disabilities."

In the same context, Kamal al-Ahmad, Safe Childhood Center Protection Officer, said that the aim of these activities is to promote the integration of people with special needs into the society. “Such people are an essential part of the society and can play an active role if they were provided the right environment,” al-Ahmad said.

The event included a purposeful stage show during a series of activities, which ended with the distribution of symbolic gifts for children
