All schools in the cities of Ain al-Arab / Kobani and Tal Abyad / Gre Spi are still closed, due to the military operation carried out by Turkey and its affiliated armed groups, on the city of Tal Abyad, in addition to the Turkish threats of invading northeastern Syria.
The decision of closure of schools came a day after the start of the Turkish military operation, which, in turn, deprived about 90 thousand students in Ain al-Arab / Kobani, Ain Issa, Tal Abyad, Srrin and its countryside, of their education.
Schools are overcrowded by IDPs
Talal Abdul Rahman, a member of the school administration in Kobani, has told North-Press that the suspension of the educational process in schools, was caused by the Turkish bombardment on the cities of northeastern Syria, where it led to the displacement of people from their cities and villages.
He continued: "This prompted the Education Authority to receive displaced people from the city of Tal Abyad and some villages near the areas of clashes in Kobani countryside, in schools temporarily".
He added that the IDPs were received at two schools in Kobani city, Mashta Noor School and Martyr Perwin School, in addition to receiving IDPs in the schools of Jalabiya town, 45km southeast of Kobani, schools of Sheran town 10km east of Kobani, and schools of Tal Ghazal village, 12km southern Kobani.
The schools in the aforementioned area stopped receiving students on the 10th of October, a day after the Turkish military operation against areas in north and eastern Syria.
Longing for schools
Suleiman Othman, a 13-year-old student, said that his school is closed due to fears of continuous attacks on the area for 15 days, pointing out that he wants to return to his school and receive lessons with his colleagues, expressing his longing for school days.
Rangin Shekh Razi, another student expressed her eagerness to study, pointing out that about 10 days after the start of the school year, schools were closed, stressing that she would like to return to school as soon as possible to complete her education.
869 schools were closed
The co-chairperson of the Education Authority, Nisreen Sheikh Kayad, confirmed that due to the threats of war, 869 schools in Ein Issa, Srrin, Tal Abyad / Gre Spi and Ain al-Arab Kobani were closed, as the teachers had to stop their work.
She stressed that there are about 90 thousand students in the mentioned areas who have dropped out of their schools.
Moreover, most of the schools have IDPs from the city of Tal Abyad and its countryside and from the villages of Kobani near Tal Abyad.
The closure of schools will continue until the situation calms, and the Autonomous Administration issue a decision of the resumption of the educational process, she said.
On the 9th of October, the Turkish forces and its affiliated armed opposition groups launched attacks on the cities of Ras al-Ain (Sere-Kaniye), Tal Abyad (Gre Spi), as well as threatning of launching a military operation in the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobani).
