Hundreds of displaced people from the city of Afrin in northern Aleppo countryside headed to the base of Russian forces in the village of al-Wahshiya in northern Aleppo countryside to deliver a message to the Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the upcoming meeting with the Turkish President Erdogan, which proposed to be held today in Sochi.
A delegation of people entered the Russian military base after the generals refused to meet them, preventing the media from entering.
Adnan Sheikh Mohammed, an administrator at the Martyrs’ Families Foundation said:
“The mercenaries who attack the areas of northeastern Syria led by Turkey are the same ones who abandoned and abused people in Afrin”. Mohammad called on Russia not to tolerate the division of the Syrian territories and correct the mistakes it has committed against the Kurdish people.
Henan Ali, a member of a human rights organization said that the letter contained documentations and statistics about the civilian victims in Afrin and the northeastern areas of Syria.
Ali added that they have informed the generals about their demands, which focused on the return of the people of Afrin to their region and to stand in front of the violations against civilians in Ras al-Ain (Sere-Kaniye).
The meeting lasted an hour between the delegation and the Russian military officials and officers from the Syrian army.
An officer from the Russian-Syrian Reconciliation Center confirmed: “The message has been received and they will carry the demands of the people to the concerned parties, while claiming the liberation of Idlib and Afrin, and all of Syrian territories, stressing to the unity of the people in Syria under the Syrian leadership”.
The brigadier also declined to comment on the Syrian Army’s agreement with Syrian Democratic Forces SDF in northeastern Syria and the deployment of their forces in the region.
Adnan Sheikh Mohammed said that this is not the first time they protested in front of the Russian base, “We told them that you claim to protect the Syrian territories, but they divide the Syrian territories before your eyes, they are building walls and strangers are entering our areas.”
He continued: “When you were in Kafr Janneh we trusted you, but you failed the Kurdish people, you took down your flags and waved the flags of the opposition groups, the mercenary groups that control Afrin are the same ones who are attacking Ras al-Ain now,” he added.
