Jisr al-Shughur in the western countryside of Idlib is witnessing a deterioration of the security situation within the region and its countryside west of Idlib, especially after the arrival of tens of thousands of IDPs from Damascus, Homs and Daraa to the region and the lack of attention to the security issue.
Muhammad al-Jundi who, a resident of al-Shaghr village, west of Jisr al-Shughur told North-Press that the security situation is “somewhat embarrassing”, where we hear and see incidents of kidnapping, theft, bombing and unworthy actions.
Al-Jundi appealed for what he described as “stakeholders and events”, to be “as responsible as to protect this people and their properties”, he called on the concerned authorities to pay attention and conduct night patrols or movable checkpoints on the roads.
He pointed out that the citizen must be “as aware and responsible as to report any case of suspicion, and not cover up anyone”, considering that these cases lead to increased chaos and lawlessness.
Al-Jundi stated that the security lies in “the return of the IDPs, the return of prosperity, increased trade, economic uplift, employment and initiatives which are creative for livelihood and money”.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Abdulqader who is a resident of Jisr al-Shughur told North-Press that the security situation is acceptable, pointing out that it is a priority today.
He added that, “Despite the presence of armed groups on the ground, despite the proliferation of checkpoints, but the security issue isn’t free of a reality and tangible defect”.
“No doubt that there are robberies, kidnappings, intimidation, terror and threats, but this must be taken into account and greater attention should be paid to security and stability by the armed groups on the ground”, he said.
He stressed that the Syrian citizen should sense the responsibility, and to report any resemblance, imbalance or suspicion, and the factions should spread more checkpoints.
He claimed that theft or similar incidents, which occur in the region are “few and simple comparing to the rest of the regions”, adding that they “must pay more attention”.
While the head of the local council in the city of Jisr al-Shughur, Ismail Hasnawi accused the Syrian government forces of planting sleeper cells “to intimidate citizens and quell the revolutionary movement within the cities”.
Stressing on the responsibility of the Syrian government for all the bombings, knowing that in the city of Jisr al-Shughur, the last cell, which carried out operations in the region was arrested.
The media activist Abdulqader Ghassan said that the responsible parties are the security apparatus in the region, and assassinations, robberies and others don’t subside, especially in villages and towns which are being bombed and displaced.
Abdulqader shared his idea of the subordination of these cells to the Syrian government, adding that the security side “isn’t incapable” of controlling the situation, but the escalation is hindering it.
“There are some villages north of Jisr al-Shughur, which need more control and what the citizens are suffering from is thefts”, he said.
Between lawlessness and the inability of the armed groups to control that in Idlib and its western countryside, citizens remain in anxiety and fear of further bombings, assassinations, kidnappings and killings.
