The Autonomous administration of North and East Syria has started to move Twaihina center for internally displaced people IDPs in the western countryside of Al-Tabqa, most of them were displaced from the governorates of Homs, Hama, and Aleppo into a new IDP center in the town of Mahmudli, 13 km northern the city of Al-Tabqah, the new camp was established by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Several humanitarian organizations are operating in the new camp in coordination with the UNHCR, while the camp accommodates about 1680 families with an ability for expansion.

As for the reasons of transferring the IDPs to another camp, Abdelhadi al-Abd, the current co-chair of Mahmudli camp and the former of Twaihina camp told North-Press that they have moved the camp because of its location right on the bank of the Euphrates river, as when the water level of the river rises, it causes many problems for the camp’s residents.

Al-Abd said that the humanitarian aid in Twaihina camp is so little, in addition to the lack of schools and health facilities, because it’s a random camp.

He pointed out that the new Mahmudli camp is well-equipped, where it includes health and educational facilities, as the residents will be provided by food and health baskets and hygiene products throughout the month.

“I was displaced with my family because of the indiscriminate shelling on our areas by the Syrian government”, said Alaa Mubarak, an IDP from Hama governorate, “We chose to move to the areas of the Autonomous administration as a because of safety, and I have been living in Twaihina camp for almost two years”.

Mubarak added that Mahmudli camp is way better comparing to former Twaihina camp, which lacked tidiness in addition to worn tents, which caused the submergence of some IDPs.

It’s worth mentioning that the new Mahmudli IDP center includes schools and health facilities, while the residents are allowed to leave and work outside the center in official leaves granted to them.
