Security tensions in Daraa amid Attacks on Syrian Intelligence and Reconciliation Committees

Syria’s southern governorate of Daraa is witnessing security tensions in past hours as a result of attacks by some armed groups on various areas in the governorate, where the Syrian government forces had imposed its military control back in 2018.
Unidentified gunmen attacked a Mukhtar’s house in the city of Nawa on Monday night, they opened fire on the house, causing injuries to the Mukhtar, while local residents cited that the Mukhtar’s being one of those engaged in the reconciliation process with the Syrian government, as a reason of shooting.
In the same context, gunmen also attacked Al-Tablin checkpoint and the headquarters of “The Arab Socialist Baath Party” in Da’el, northern countryside of Daraa, no information about casualties caused by the attack were reported.
Furthermore, civil sources in Da’el confirmed that the attack was carried out by machine guns accompanied by bombings were likely to be the result of the use of grenades by the attackers on the headquarters that they claimed to be affiliated to the government’s air security branch.
Since mid-2018, unidentified armed groups had been conducting assassination operations targeting figures related to the Syrian government forces, the security services, military officers, and some others who have made compromises with the government.
Additionally, unidentified opponents to the Syrian government wrote graphics on walls in different parts of the city of Daraa, towns, and villages in the countryside, threatening of a new uprising against the government.
The unidentified attacks and assassinations began after the control of the Russian-backed Syrian government forces on the governorates of Daraa and Quneitra, after a large-scale military operation, and a series of settlements and reconciliations conducted southern Syria between some opposition armed groups and the Syrian government.
