Rehabilitation of Public Roads in Raqqa for the First Time Since 2011
The Civil Council in Raqqa, in coordination with the Municipality of the People and in cooperation with a private company, had continued rehabilitating the public roads and asphalting the main streets that surrounding Raqqa city and its entrances.
Most of the streets in Raqqa city were out of service, as a result of  the fight between the Syria Democratic Forces (the International Coalition-backed Forces) and the militants of ISIS 2017.
Furthermore, the roads had not been rehabilitated since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011. So, this was the first time that the roads were asphalted.
Engineer Abdullah Al-Jaa’bari, the Road Manager of Al-Shamal Company (the implementing company), told North Press, that the project started after coordination with the Civil Council and the Municipality of People, Pointing out that they agreed to rehabilitate and asphalt several roads in Raqqa by extending 50 thousand ms3 of asphalt in the main streets of the city.
“However, the project started from the western part of the city to Panorama Square in the south(back and forth) in the form of two layers, the first one is putting down  the liquid asphalt layer, then extending the rough asphalt that formed the road in its current shape.” According to Al-Jaa’bari.
In other words, this stage will include all the roads leading to Al-Jazara junction, then the process will be applied on Al-Noor Street (the longest street in the city) and the most damaged one, in addition to the North Corniche Street between Al-Sawame’ and Al-Mazare’ Squares, passing through Al-Frusya Square.
“the project will be completed within four months from now, to move to another plan, including increasing the agreed amount of asphalt to rehabilitate the main streets in the city.” According to the director of roads in Al-Shamal Company
