The Co-chair of Economy and Agriculture Board in north and east Syria, Salman Baroudo announced today that the agricultural fields of wheat and barley crops damaged by fire were amounted to about 382,200 dunums, while the loss is estimated at about SYP 17 billion, about US$30 million.
Baroudo gave the latest statistics of damage as follows:
Areas in Al-Jazira region: 320 thousand dunums.
Areas in the Euphrates region: 24500 dunums.
Al-Tabqa: 18500 dunums.
Al-Raqqa: 14600 dunums.
Deir Ez-Zour: 3500 dunums.
Manbij: 1100 dunums.
All of the mentioned losses resulted by fire, in which some people believe to be artificial, while some parties and political figures in the region accused each other, the Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for some of the fires and threatened to burn more agricultural fields in Iraq and Syria.
The Autonomous Administration had announced general alarms after the outbreak and uncontrolled spread of fires, especially in the areas of Tirbe-Sepi/Qahtaniya, when approaching oil installations and fields.
