Syrian security forces arrest youth party head in Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian security forces arrested the head of Youth Party for Building and Change Perwin Ibrahim on Monday during a protest in front of the Syrian People’s Council in Damascus.

Vera Omar, the party’s office secretary, confirmed to North the arrest of Perwin Ibrahim.

Ibrahim was a candidate in the Syrian People's Council elections that were held on July 19, but she did not get a seat in the council, and accused Syrian authorities of rigging the election results.

Ibrahim attacked the Ba'ath Party, the ruling party in Syria, accusing it of being "An exclusionary party which refuses to participate and rules as if Syria is its own farm," and she questioned what the previous Ba'athist-majority  parliament had offered to the people.

During a live broadcast on Facebook, Perwin stated that the election results in Hasakah were rigged.

In this regard, she pledged to organize protests rejecting the announced results and to demand a recount.

The party also submitted an objection to the Judicial Subcommittee in which it questioned the "integrity of the People's Council elections," though no ruling has been made on this objection.
