Assad receives Iranian military delegation to discuss military cooperation agreement
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Bashar Assad met a high-level Iranian military delegation on Thursday to discuss a military cooperation agreement signed on Wednesday between the two parties.
The Syrian president, during a meeting with the Iranian military delegation headed by Muhammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian military, expressed his satisfaction with the results of meetings carried out between the two sides which resulted in the signing of the military and technical cooperation agreement.
He pointed out during his meeting with the Iranians the agreement comes as a result of years of joint work and cooperation to fight the war in Syria, according to the Syrian government’s official news agency SANA.
Bagheri said Iran attaches importance to the continuation of strengthening relations between the two allied countries in various fields, protecting them from attempts to meddle in their affairs and target the independence of their decisions.
On Wednesday, media outlets close to the Syrian government announced the signing of a new agreement between Iran and the Syrian government, which stipulates the strengthening military and security cooperation and continuing coordination.
The agreement was signed by Syria's Minister of Defense General Ali Ayoub and the Chief of Staff of the Iranian military Major General Mohammad Bagheri at the Syrian Army headquarters in Damascus.
Bagheri said earlier on Wednesday that his country would strengthen Syria's air defense systems as part of the strengthening of military relations between Syria and Iran.
