US Envoy to Syria stresses opening of border crossings to northeastern Syria

SYRIA (North Press) – James Jeffery, US Special Envoy to Syria, stressed the necessity of reopening Syria’s northeastern borders in accordance with resolution No. 2504 on Tuesday.

On a press conference by phone, Jeffery said that the participating delegations in the Brussels Conference for humanitarian aid to Syria stressed the renewal of resolution 2504, and warned of a humanitarian disaster.

A according to Jeffery, a number of the conference’s participants, including the USA, expressed their support to UN Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen's call for a ceasefire under resolution 2254.

Jeffery said that Washington believes that the Astana countries will not be helpful to achieve peace in Syria.

He pointed out to the failure of the ceasefire agreements, and that Astana countries failed to prevent Syrian government forces from taking over new areas.
