Russian-Turkish-Iranian online summit to discuss the Syrian file

Press Secretary for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov indicated that the presidents of Russia, Iran, and Turkey are preparing to start negotiations to discuss the Syrian crisis via an online meeting on Wednesday.

This was during Peskov’s response to a question from reporters whether these talks between Russia’s Putin, Turkey’s Erdogan, and Iran’s Rouhani will take place tomorrow, saying, “The Kremlin can confirm this information.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Muhammed Javad Zarif, visited Turkey on the 15th of June to meet his Turkish counterpar, Mevlut Cavusoglu. He confirmed that the Astana negotiations will be online in Tehran within the coming weeks after which the Iranian capital will host the Astana meeting in person.

A visit by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygo to Istanbul on the seventh of June was canceled hours before the scheduled date, as it was expected to address the Libyan and Syrian crises after the two countries witnessed field developments and a military escalation.
