Damascus postpones legislative elections until July due to coronavirus

On Thursday, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad issued a decree to postpone  legislative elections until July 19th, as a precautionary measure to cope with the outbreak of coronavirus.

 

Quoting the webpage of the Syrian Presidency, al-Assad issued decree No. 121/2020, which postpones the parliamentary elections for the People's Council for the third legislative session specified by Decree No. 86/2020 on May 20th, 2020, until July 19th.

 

According to the presidency, the decision comes within the precautionary measures taken by the state to cope with coronavirus.

 

On March 14th, the Syrian president  issued a decree in which he postponed elections that were scheduled for April 13th to May 20th.
