In interviews with North Press, journalists and analysts in Damascus said that, Turkish regime’s urge to control wide areas in Syria aims at obtaining a portion from the concluded Syrian scene, and that the United States is trying to return it to NATO, while Russia is going on to embrace it in order to make a big gap inside the NATO. Also, the will of Autonomous Administration in northeastern Syria to address all international powers, would make Turkish goals more difficult to achieve.

Journalist Ghazi Salama sees that Sochi Agreement with its Russian and Turkish guarantors have become a cover for a political solution in Syria instead of Geneva, but he asks: "Is it possible to witness a tension in relations between Moscow and Ankara due to the situation in Idlib?" Answering this question, Salama says that, “we should concentrate on the Turkish sudden turn towards the Kremlin in 2016, which was described as a Turkish shift from the U.S.”.

Confirming his talk, he added that Erdogan's heading towards Russia came practically after Coup D'état attempt in Turkey which carried U.S. fingerprints, according to him. Also, the U.S. supported the situation for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in addition to targeting the Russian aircraft and assassinating the Russian ambassador in Turkey, "all of them are reasons made Turkey in Russia's lap".

Salama pointed out that, Turkey is urging in taking control over wide areas in northern Syria to "make pressure and obtain a balanced portion in the preparing Syrian solution".

Concerning Turkish membership in the NATO and its alliance with Russia, Salama said: "the U.S. wants to return Turkey to NATO's lap, and it may substitute its ally-the Kurds with Turkey", while Russia's silence towards the Turkish military operation in the area is a insistence from Russia's side to stick an ally "in the heart of NATO".

For his part, the political analyst, Fahd al-Sayyed sees that, the Russian-Turkish agreement won't fail, but it is a phase of coordinating interests between the Russians and the Turks.

"What is happening was planned before, and Erdogan will go on trying to impose a safe zone, but the Autonomous Administration's heading to all international powers, the Americans and the Europeans, will make Turkish goals in the region more difficult to achieve", al-Sayyed said.

Al-Sayyed pointed out to the European tour of the co-chair of the Executive Council of Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmed and her meetings with many senior European officials. He expected that, this tour will bring several changes which may have effects on the future phases in the region.
