An official of the Assyrian Democratic Organization says that the mini-constitutional committee, its task is only to draft and present Formulations to the committee of fifty, and it is the beginning of a serious political solution to implement the resolution 2254, but it did not include the Assyrians.
On the achievements of the Constitutional Commission, Gabriel Moshe, the head of relations at the Assyrian Democratic Organization, told North-Press: the Commission has been much delayed, because of the “stalling and disruption by the regime, who did not accept to join the Constitutional Committee in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, but only coerced and compelled by his allies, mainly the Russians.”
He added that the negotiation body is composed of several components and the elections are held within these components. He stressed that the representation of the Syriac Assyrians did not gain access to the mini-constitutional committee.
Moshe added that the task of this committee is to draft and present Formulations to the committee of fifty members, and then to the Syrian negotiation body. Which is the decision-maker in adopting this proposal or the constitutional content.
Accordingly, the Committee of fifty members is the reference of the mini-committee, which consists of 15 persons from each delegation (opposition, government, civil society) and therefore representation is always present in this committee, as he said.
Moshe confirmed that this committee is the first meeting between the opposition and the Syrian government in one room, and there were direct discussions at the formal and expanded meetings, where the rules of procedure were adopted.
He also said that the meeting of the mini-committee lasted five days, and that these meetings were supervised by the United Nations, and the Special Envoy for Syria by the United Nations.
Following the adoption of the Code of Conduct by the Co-Chairs, Moshe said that it was agreed to determine the constitutional contents at the meeting of the mini-committee, which ended on the ninth of this month.
However, he said that the positive thing to predict that this committee will complete its work "is to set a date for the mini-committee on the 25th of this month and another meeting next month."
He continued: “We do not hold the Constitutional Committee as much as possible, but we consider it a step, a start and a key to finding a political solution and the implementation of all the provisions of resolution 2254, in parallel with the work of the Constitutional Committee.”
Gabriel Moshe, the official in the Assyrian Democratic Organization, concluded by saying: "We cannot judge the launch of the Constitutional Committee. We know that it is the beginning of a serious political solution in the implementation of resolution 2254."
