The Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has condemned the plans and preparations which were announced by Turkey regarding a military assault in northeastern Syria, considering it as condemned and completely rejected.
Aboul Gheit has stressed in a statement issued by the Arab League, on Wednesday, that the planned operation by Ankara represents a clear violation of Syrian sovereignty, threatens the territorial integrity of Syria, and opens the door for further deterioration in the security and humanitarian situation.
According to the statement, foreign interference in Syria by any party is condemned and rejected, and that what is required now, is to give a boost to the political process after the formation of the constitutional committee, not to engage in further military escalation. “The Turkish incursion into Syrian territories threatens to ignite further conflicts in east and northern Syria, and may allow ISIS to regain some of its power,” he said.
The statement concluded that the Ministerial Council of the Arab League had confirmed in its last meeting last month, the condemnation of foreign interventions throughout Syria, calling on the Turkish side to withdraw its troops from all Syrian territories.
The statement issued by the Arab League, stressed the denial of any arrangements that may establish a new reality on Syrian territories, in a manner inconsistent with international agreements and laws, especially in the regard of relations with neighboring countries.
