“Of course, there are representatives of northeastern Syria who will participate in the Constitutional Committee which has been recently formed”, the U.S. special envoy to Syria Amb. James Jeffrey, said in response to a question by a reporter, “Will the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) participate in the process of drafting the constitutional committee?”
The reporter repeated to Amb. Jeffrey: “I meant in my question, will the SDF be represented in the Constitutional Committee?”
Amb. Jeffrey replied that he did not mean the SDF, but rather, representatives from north and eastern Syria, “Wait, I never said the SDF, first and foremost, SDF is an army, and it will never be as you understood”, Jeffery replied.
“The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) is only one of many political bodies in northeastern Syria”, Jeffrey said, “There are 50 people chosen by the United Nations to represent northeastern Syria. I also said that the region will be less represented than other regions, these are exactly the two things I have said”, he stressed.
The Russian agency “Sputnik” stated after the misunderstanding of Mr. Jeffrey’s statement, that it managed to obtain a full list of the names of representatives of the Constitutional Committee, of which it didn’t include any names representing the SDF.
