The Muslim Brotherhood of Syria rejects the Constitutional Committee

The Muslim Brotherhood of Syria has rejected the formation of the Constitutional Committee, which was recently announced by the United Nations and aimed at drafting a new constitution for Syria.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Muslim Brotherhood stressed that what is happening in Syria today is the imposition of a military solution in a political form.
The Muslim Brotherhood justified its refusal by saying: “It came as a result of our full conviction that the Constitutional Committee was not founded on sound political foundations and that it is the result of a political deviation in UN resolutions”.
The group added in the statement, which was published on its official social media accounts: “The fundamental problem in Syria is not forming a constitution, an election, nor a seat in the government or parliament, but in an authoritarian and repressive security system that does not believe in a constitution, or in the human values and the right of freedom and dignity”.
The statement indicated that the group doesn’t have any names (official or unofficial) in the declared list of the Constitutional Committee, while it had refused to participate in the committee from the beginning.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres has announced at a press conference, the completion of the formation of the Constitution Preparation Committee in Syria officially, after the approval of the Syrian opposition and the Syrian government.
In July last year, the Muslim Brotherhood of Syria announced that it would withdraw from the Constitutional Committee, and would not participate in it.
