The Syrian political analyst Samer Kheliawy has commented on Erdogan’s threats regarding opening the gates borders for refugees to go to Europe.
Al- Kheliawy told North-Press that there are several objectives lie behind Erdogan’s threat of opening the borders for the Syrian refugees to Europe.
As he summarized the reasons to “putting pressure on Europe to meet the promised financial aids, requesting European assistance regarding the safe zone and gaining European support for the Turkish presence in Syria.
Moreover, he explained these reasons that Turkey has received pledges from Europe to provide it with $6 billion, while only $3 billion has been provided so far, in addition to assistance for the establishment of the safe zone, of which Erdogan previously promised that it would receive more than one million refugees, and to gain the European support for the Turkish presence in Syria after the recent statements about the withdrawal.
Al-Kheliawy stressed that Turkey has announced that it will not allow anyone from inside Syria to cross into Turkey, as it has already returned thousands of Syrian refugees to their country.
Regarding foreign fighters, al-Kheliawy said that it’s not only Turkey who is supposed to solving their problem, this needs “joint efforts of several countries after Russia has implemented its plan by gathering them in Syria, in order to benefit from their presence militarily and politically, and to invade the region under the pretext of the presence of those fighters.”
He also said that the reason for the Russian plan might be to involve Turkey in “a war with the jihadists as to weaken its presence in Syria, take over the Syrian card from Turkey and control the political decision in this region alone and away from Turkey.
The Syrian political analyst Samer Kheliawy concluded that Erdogan has launched these statements because he believes that “they will solve some economic, political and military problems, in the opposite of what some believe that these statements would increase the problems and hostility to Turkey.
While the Syrian human rights activist Anwar al-Bunni told North-Press that Erdogan is seeking to use the Syrian issue to “increase his profits, influence to be used internally in his country.”
He added: “To use the issue of refugees is a mean for blackmailing in Turkey and the whole world, and it has become an issue of internal conflict between parties, while no one has looked for the root cause of the problem, rather, they have dealt with the outcome”.
Al-Bunni stressed that the world countries have ignored the problem basis, which is the presence of criminals against humanity, and war criminals in Syria are still killing the people who are the only loser on all levels, under an oppressive system on one hand, and in a community that has taken advantage of the tragedy of the people on the other hand.
He concluded: “Like the rest, Erdogan is a partner in crime and murder, he is a partner in exploiting the suffering of the Syrians and they are trying to use this matter for their own interest”.
It’s noteworthy that Erdogan’s threats have coincided with the UN announcement that more than 1,000 civilians have been killed since the military escalation process has begun in northwestern Syria in late April.
Erdogan said last Thursday: “If we do not get enough international support regarding the refugee issue, we will open the gates for them to Europe.”
The Turkish president had earlier criticized the failure of Europe to support Turkey regarding the influx of refugees, although the European Union has pledged to pay 6 billion euros to Turkey to help the Syrian refugees, but Ankara has received only / 2.5 / billions of them.
