The Syrian army took control over the city of Khan Sheikhoun in southern Idlib countryside, and northern Hama countryside, including the city of Morek, in addition to imposing a siege around the ninth Turkish observation post in the area.
Regarding the control of Khan Sheikhoun, the Syrian Member of Parliament Ahmad Merei said: “The liberation of Khan Sheikhoun supports the political stance of the Syrian state, and shows the world the ability of Syria and its allies to liberate its territories which are under the control of terrorist militias”.
The Syrian MP stressed that “the military achievements made by the Syrian army in cooperation with its allies will lead to strike all projects that are being woven to divide the country, and at the same time to constitute a message to the US project, which in turn tries to give the Turkish side the pretext of intervention in the Syrian territories and occupying parts of it”.
Regarding the repercussions of the recent developments in the so-called “safe zone”, Merei explained that “despite the lack of clarity about this zone, but the decision to establish a joint room and to be controlled by Turkey and the United States is fully rejected by the Syrian government and its people”.
Regarding the future expectations of the ongoing conflict in Syria, he pointed out that “the military and political sides are linked and can’t be separated, and that the situation in Syria is coming to a stage of new political and military repositioning.”
He added: “The Russian side has remarks on the Turkish side as appeared in the words of the Russian President Vladimir Putin during his recent meeting with his French counterpart in Paris, where he was clear in rejecting the expansion of the terrorist groups in Syria, in addition to statements made by the Russian Foreign Ministry, which rejects any changes or practices that would affect the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian territories”.
On this basis, Ahmad Merei said, Moscow would force Ankara to implement its ceasefire commitments, but without a military clash or fighting between the two sides, so that the Turkish intentions to carry out a military action against Syria are aborted, as Erdogan became restricted by the new balances on the ground.
The Syrian MP revealed that the Turkish military convoy, which was targeted by the Syrian fighter jets, did not intend to take direct military action against the Syrian government forces, but it came to revive and support the armed opposition groups as it had failed to do so.
Ahmed Merei said: “The de-escalation zones are not only subjected to the will of the Turkish side, but to all other parties, and in order to maintain these zones, it must be approved by Russia”.
