“US-Turkey negotiations on the safe zone, northeastern Syria, is unclear,” said Ilham Ahmad, the chief executive of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
“All the ongoing attempts are aimed at preserving security and stability of the region and ending mutual concerns on both sides of the Syrian-Turkish borders,” Ahmad said in a tweet on Sunday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ankara and Washington have reached an agreement to establish a joint operations center in Turkey as soon as possible to coordinate and manage the establishment of the safe zone in northern Syria, as talks on this regard took place at the headquarters of the Turkish Defense Ministry for three days.
Moreover, Pentagon spokesman Sean Robertson has earlier told North-Press that recent talks with Turkey had made progress on making up a safe mechanism in north and eastern Syria to address Turkey’s concerns by setting up a joint operations center for planning and implementation.
Robertson added: Establishing security mechanism at the borders will be implemented gradually and in a phased manner, as the United States is ready to carry out some activities quickly.
In remarks to the Kurdish TV channel “Ronahi”, Ilham Ahmad demanded the involvement of Syrian Democratic Council in any US-Turkish agreement on the safe zone.
“Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has agreed to hold talks on the agreement, with the aim of preventing a new war in the region, not because the region is unsafe,” Ahmad added.
Furthermore, Ahmad also noted that the area which SDF agreed to hold talks on estimated at about five kilometers, northeastern Syria.
