Riyadh– North-Press Agency – Fahim Al-Sorani

The independent member of the Constitutional Committee, Brigadier Ibrahim Al-Jabbawi, denied that the 13th round of the Astana would led to an agreement on the truce and ceasefire in Idlib, stressing that the opposition was not informed about such an agreement.

In an interview with North-Press, Al-Jabbawi stated that the announcement of a truce came by the special envoy of Russian President to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, who meant during his talk that “the ceasefire initiative came from the Syrian government, which means that the opposition forces are not interested in this initiative.”

The dissident brigadier Ibrahim Al-Jabbawi wondered how the truce could be contingent, as the Syrian government delegation had said.

He also accused Russia and Syrian government forces that they were always responsible for the breach of the ceasefire agreements reached in the past.

Moreover, Al-Jabbawi considered that Moscow do not adopt neutral position concerning the Syrian crisis, stressing that ” The opposition could have overthrown the regime in various ways, including peaceful ones, if Russia didn’t intervene in the Syrian crisis.” Describing Moscow as “the opponent and the judge”.

Al-Jabbawi also accused Russia of “taking part with government forces in the attacks on civilians, and that it creates a state of terror among innocent citizens,” as he expressed.

The statement made by  Al-Jabbawi came after the Kazakh Foreign Ministry pointed out that the majority of the Syrian opposition forces participating in the Astana talks, agreed on the ceasefire in Idlib and so is the participants agreed on the composition of the constitutional committee.

Furthermore, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry also announced that it could be possible to hold a meeting or two at the highest levels, about Syria,  by the end of this year in Nursultan (formerly  Astana).

In a related context, the head of the Syrian delegation to the talks, Bashar Al-Ja’afari described the final statement of the Astana talks as the best so far in terms of the approach of the Syrian situation, shortly after Damascus announced its agreement to start a truce in Idlib, conditioned on the implementation of Sochi Agreement through the withdrawal of armed groups to a distance of 20 km from the de-escalation zone line, and the immediate withdrawal of heavy and medium weapons.
