Amid imminent United States escalating campaign against Iran and its regional allies, new major changes in the senior security officials had been undertaken by the Syrian leadership. The United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement special, James Jeffrey announced a few days ago at the Herzliya Conference in Israel that “A campaign of extreme pressures awaits Al-Assad’s regime, and that those who believe that Al-Assad has won are wrong”.
The new top security changes included the appointment of Major General Nasser Al-Ali as the head of Political Security Department, succeeding General Hossam Luqa, in addition to the appointment of Major General Nasser Deeb as the Director of the Criminal Security Department, replacing Major General Safwan Issa, and Major General Ghassan Jawdat Ismail as the Director of the Air Intelligence Directorate (the country’s most frightening security apparatus).
In an interview with North-Press, Wael Sawah, the former executive director of ‘The Day After’ Association (TDA) in Washington said: “With no doubt, the two US administrations did not find any interests to intervene in Syria, but the confusion of papers began in the era of Obama, specifically with allowing Russia to have all this incursion in the country,” although the Syrian affairs in the Trump era didn’t differ as according to his predecessor’s, yet he said that, “the current administration, starting from exerting pressures on Iran, seems more serious to draw red lines that prevent renormalization with the Syrian government”.
The former executive director added, “It’s very important to note that punishing entities and people close to the Assad regime like Samer al-Foz is a step taken by President Trump administration for the first time to target the backbone of the Assad regime’s supporters, where they were primarily businessmen”.
The European Union has already imposed economic sanctions on Ali Mamlouk for his involvement in violent actions against demonstrators, under those sanctions, the EU countries are barred to deal with Mamlouk who is banned from entering their territories as well.
Sawah states: “Damascus is on the verge of a new phase of the US escalation against Assad’s regime, based on Washington’s desire to stop the Iranian influence, which is closely linked with Al-Assad’s regime as the Americans think”.
Sawah also revealed to North-Press about a new list, which is being made up by the Syrian-American organization “Pro-Justice”, which will include some prominent names who financially support the Syrian government.
