In a phone call, an official in the US Department of State told North-Press that the United States is urging its allies in the Global Coalition to make a variety of contributions to help stabilize the region of northeastern Syria and prevent the return of the Islamic State group.

The official who refused to reveal his name said it’s quite possible that the form of contribution would be through forces that would maintain the stability of the region.

The statements came after a tour by the US Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey, to a number of European countries.

In an interview with North-Press, the US Department of State official said that the US Special Envoy James Jeffrey has talked with the Turkish Minister of Defense in Brussels about the latest developments in Syria and ways of securing stability, including reducing the ongoing violence in Idlib, and discussing the safe zone concept along the Turkish-Syrian borders.

He also confirmed that Washington’s roles in Syria are diverse, including urging the international community not to provide any reconstruction funds to the Syrian government in Damascus, describing it as “irrevocable” in order to achieve a peaceful political transition process in line with Security Council resolution 2254, in addition to ensure providing contributions to northeast Syria to stabilize the region after the territorial defeat of the Islamic State group.

The American official said that the contributions needed by the region of northeastern Syria are various and large, and cannot be secured by a single state, adding that “We will not comment on the details of the pledges and contributions promised by a number of partner countries, we will leave them to comment”.
