Public Fears of Continued Military Operations in Tal Refa’at and its Surroundings
A state of uncertainty and concern overwhelmed the residents of Tal Refa’at city, the displaced of Afrin region, after the city in the northern countryside of Aleppo, was shelled by Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, , on the 18th of this month, which resulted in the death of a civilian, and injuring of others.
North Press monitored the city closely, then met a number of the displaced of Afrin region, who live in Tal Refa’at.
“we had been bombed by Turkey and its backed-armed factions, and we have no idea about the fate of this region,” Kawa Ebo, a displaced from Afrin, told North Press.
Ebo said that living became difficult in the city, “the area is besieged, I do not know where to go with my children and my family if the situation gets worse,” he added.
According to Ahmed Venisia, a displaced from Afrin, the shelling that they have undergone several days ago, targeted them as civilians, as it did not distinguish between military points and civilians, “which resulted in many victims due to indiscriminate shelling.”
Venisia called on “the decision-makers” to find solutions for the region to preserve civilians’ lives, “because Tal Refa’at is a civilian-populated who are concerned about their fate”.
“they were forced to move to Tal Refa’at, after the Turkish-backed opposition factions controlled Afrin ” Jamal Ahmed Omar, 65-year-old, told North Press. “The aim of the Turkish state is to fight against the Kurds,” he added.
Thus, Omar called on the international community to break the silence on what the Kurds are undergoing.
Haji Abdo, 32-years old said that despite the presence of Russian and Iranian troops in the city, the shelling never stops, ” days ago, the opposition factions targeted our houses, and one of the civilians lost his live, and others were severely injured.”
“Even after we fled from Afrin, we are bombed again, we do not know where to go, bombing is everywhere ,” Abdo, as most of the displaced people from Afrin in Tal Refa’at city, wonders about their fate.
