Border villages north of Raqqa: American observation points do not function
The residents of Susk village, west of Tal Abyad / Gre Sepi town, appealed to the international parties to protect them from the Turkish operations, as well as demanding the international coalition (which has a base in the village) to do their duties towards them. As the Turkish army is shelling the village and its surroundings from time to time.
The Turkish army opened fire, on May the 5th, 2019, on civilian houses in the village of Susk, causing material damage to civilian properties. This prevents them from moving freely in their vicinity and their agricultural border lands.
The Turkish border guards target civilians in border villages in north east of Syria, which is under the control of the International Coalition-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), where the Turkish troops prevent the people from cultivating their fields and targeting them and their machineries sporadically.
Three months ago, the International Coalition set up observation points along the border between Turkey and north-east of Syria.
The village’s situation was observed, through a round of North Press correspondents. The villagers said that their village had been permanently fired by the Turkish troops. On the 12th of December, 2018, they killed a civilian in his field.
“Although there is a US military point (pointing at the American observation point), yet, the Turkish army target the village randomly to emptying it of civilians,” adding that ” Last month, the Turkish border guards have targeted us more than ten times. ” Za’im Izz al-Din Othman, a resident of Susk, told North Press.
Osman said he had to leave his home in the north of the village, because of the repeated Turkish attacks, appealing to the world, the United Nations and the Security Council to intervene to save civilians from “the continuing violations.”
For his part, said Walat Muhammad Khalil, one of the village’s residents, that the Turkish army had targeted his cousin and killed him while he was going to the field, pointing out that the Turkish targeting decreased after the establishment of observation points on the border, as he called on the international coalition and the Syrian Democratic forces to protect the region.
Nuh Qader Qader, 55, said that the village school had been targeted several times, and the border guards sometimes fired with heavy weapons. He said that the American point did not help them.
In 2016, Turkey began building a wall with a length of 911 km, which is considered the third longest wall in the world after the wall of China and the border wall between the United States and Mexico.
Turkey equipped the wall with towers, thermal cameras, night vision equipment and radars as well as firearm and laser weapons systems.
