Hasakah security official condemns attacks on Syria’s Sere Kaniye returnees
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) — Mahmoud Khalil, deputy commander of Internal Security Forces in Hasakah governorate, on Monday condemned attacks and acts of vandalism targeting residents returning to Sere Kaniye.
Khalil said the “individual and rejected acts” seek to undermine stability, hinder residents’ return and undermine integration efforts in the region.
He said Internal Security Forces immediately began taking necessary security and legal measures, arresting a number of those involved while pursuing and investigating others for accountability under the law.
Khalil stressed that authorities would not tolerate any party seeking to exploit current circumstances to spread chaos.
He added that return trips to the city had been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure residents’ safety, and would resume once stability is restored and full protection is provided to returnees.
