Ministerial delegation inaugurates Deir ez-Zor International Airport
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian ministerial delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani inaugurated Deir ez-Zor International Airport on Wednesday, more than a year and a half after it was closed following the fall of the former Syrian government.
The inauguration was attended by the ministers of Information, Finance, Communications, and Health, along with the head of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and the governor of Deir ez-Zor.
President Ahmed al-Sharaa joined the ceremony via video link, saying the Syrian government is implementing development plans covering the eastern governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah, and Raqqa.
In his televised address, al-Sharaa said the airport had been transformed “from a place from which bombs were launched at homes, residential areas, and farms into a gateway linking the country with itself and with the outside world.”
He added that the government shares the people of Deir ez-Zor’s joy over the airport’s reopening, saying they “deserve far more than that,” and reiterated that development plans are being prepared for Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah, and Raqqa.
