First convoy returning to Sere Kaniye postponed until Monday
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The first convoy of displaced residents returning to Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) has been postponed until Monday, August 10, due to incomplete logistical preparations, Mahmoud Khalil, deputy commander of Internal Security in Hasakah governorate, announced on Wednesday.
Hundreds of families have remained displaced from Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) since 2019, when the Turkish military launched Operation Peace Spring. Many settled in different areas of the Hasakah countryside and northeast Syria, while many continue to live in displacement camps under difficult humanitarian conditions.
Two days earlier, a Syrian government delegation visited Sere Kaniye, where it met local officials to discuss the return of displaced residents to the city, as well as the return of other displaced people currently residing there to their areas of origin in Hasakah and elsewhere.
In a post on X, Khalil said: “The departure of the first convoy of families from Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) has been postponed until Monday, August 10, 2026, due to the incomplete logistical arrangements for the return.”
He added that the convoy will include 648 families and will depart from the assembly point in Tuwaynah, opposite Washokani Camp in Hasakah city, before heading to Sere Kaniye, in implementation of the January 29 agreement and following the completion of the return of all displaced residents to Afrin.
