Syrian authorities arrest man accused of insulting the state
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday the arrest of Hussein Abdulqader al-Ahmad, known as “Hayho”, after he was located on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
Earlier, the Lebanese judiciary issued a judicial commission against al-Ahmad, accusing him of undermining the prestige of the Syrian state and violating Lebanese laws that prohibit provocative behavior and public insults in front of diplomatic missions.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry said the Internal Security Forces, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, carried out the arrest after locating al-Ahmad on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
According to the ministry, the arrest followed the circulation of a video in which al-Ahmad appeared outside the Syrian embassy in Beirut, where he directed insulting and offensive remarks at Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and his wife while speaking about a request related to a consular procedure.
The video was widely shared on social media on July 27 after al-Ahmad posted it on his personal accounts.
