Trump declares Iran memorandum over, rejects further talks
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran is “over,” adding that he had no interest in pursuing future engagement with Iran.
Speaking to reporters in Ankara, Trump accused Iran of being responsible for instability across the region, saying it is “a waste of time” dealing with Tehran.
“They’re scum, they’re sick people, they’re led by sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people. And if they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it,” Trump said.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.”
His remarks came amid renewed tensions following recent exchanges of military strikes between the United States and Iran, raising further doubts about the future of diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
Trump also criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), saying he was dissatisfied with the alliance’s position on both Iran and Greenland and arguing that the United States had not been treated fairly by its allies.
He said Washington had spent more than $1 trillion protecting NATO members, while claiming the alliance had failed to support the United States against the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.
Trump further argued that the United States bears a disproportionate share of NATO’s financial burden and described Greenland as a major strategic issue for Washington.
The U.S. president added that his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, were free to continue diplomatic efforts if they wished.
