Israeli patrol stops vehicles, checks IDs in Syria’s Quneitra

QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – An Israeli army patrol on Thursday established a temporary checkpoint along the road connecting the town of al-Rafid and the village of al-Hiran in the southern countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria, where soldiers stopped passersby and inspected their identification documents.

A local source told North Press that the patrol consisted of around 20 soldiers who were deployed along the road for several hours before beginning to stop vehicles and pedestrians to verify their identities.

According to the source, the soldiers appeared to compare identification details with names listed on a document in their possession, suggesting they may have been searching for specific individuals or persons wanted by Israeli authorities.

The source added that the checkpoint created tension among residents and travelers, amid increasingly frequent Israeli military movements across various parts of the Quneitra countryside.

Israeli military operations, including patrols, incursions, searches, and temporary checkpoints, have become nearly a daily occurrence in several areas of southern Quneitra, raising concerns among local residents about security and freedom of movement.
