Syrian authorities seize large drug manufacturing materials in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian authorities announced on Wednesday the seizure of large quantities of materials used in drug manufacturing and the arrest of several suspects during a security operation in Damascus.

In a statement, the Syrian Interior Ministry said that its Anti-Narcotics Department confiscated a warehouse containing significant amounts of primary chemical substances used in the production of narcotics. The operation also led to the arrest of a number of individuals allegedly involved in the activity.

According to the ministry, field teams seized 160 barrels with a total weight of 15,840 tons. In addition, 320 boxes were confiscated, each containing four glass bottles filled with a liquid substance, bringing the total number of bottles to 1,280.

The ministry did not specify the exact location of the warehouse or provide further details about the identities of those detained.

Last Saturday, the Interior Ministry announced that its Anti-Narcotics Department had carried out a series of “complex and specialized” security operations in the Damascus countryside.

The operations reportedly resulted in dismantling an international smuggling network, uncovering secret manufacturing sites, and targeting local distribution hubs.

Syrian authorities have periodically reported similar operations as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and production within the country.
