ISIS militants raid trader’s home in east Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Armed members of the Islamic State (ISIS) stormed the house of a local trader in eastern Deir ez-Zor overnight Friday–Saturday, forcing him to pay money and confiscating a personal weapon, local sources said.

Sources from the town of Jarathi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that five ISIS militants, traveling in a jeep and a motorcycle, raided the home of Eiser Saleh al-Hamad, a trader from the area.

The sources said the armed group forced the man to pay $4,000 and seized a pistol from inside his house.

According to the same sources, the militants told the homeowner that the raid came after he repeatedly refused to pay “zakat” demanded by the group.

The attackers later left the town while chanting slogans in support of ISIS, the sources added.
