Syria reopens al-Yarubiyah crossing with Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Borders announced on Monday the reopening of al-Yarubiyah/Rabi’a border crossing between Syria and Iraq, in a step aimed at facilitating transit and boosting trade between the two countries.
In a statement, the authority said its head, Qutaiba Badawi, accompanied by presidential envoy Brig. Gen. Ziad al-Ayesh and Hasakah Internal Security commander Brig. Gen. Marwan al-Ali, received an official Iraqi delegation at al-Yarubiyah crossing. The Iraqi delegation was headed by Lt. Gen. Omar al-Waeli, chairman of Iraq’s Border Ports Authority.
The authority stated, “This visit comes within the framework of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Syria and Iraq.”
During the meeting, both sides discussed mechanisms to develop joint operations at border crossings and facilitate the movement of travelers and commercial exchange, in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
Al-Yarubiyah crossing, located in northeastern Syria’s Hasakah governorate, has been a key transit point between Syria and Iraq, particularly for trade and humanitarian access.
