QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Lebanon’s Hezbollah denied on Sunday accusations by the Syrian Interior Ministry that it was linked to a cell allegedly planning a “sabotage operation” in Quneitra province in southern Syria.
Earlier, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced that it had foiled what it described as a sabotage plot connected to Hezbollah. The operation was reportedly carried out jointly by internal security forces and the General Intelligence Service, according to the ministry.
In a statement, Hezbollah said it “categorically and firmly denies the false and fabricated allegations issued by the Syrian Interior Ministry regarding the connection of a cell arrested in Syria to Hezbollah.”
The group added, “We reiterate what we have repeatedly declared, that we have no presence within Syrian territory, nor any activity of any kind or nature.”
Hezbollah also expressed surprise at what it described as repeated attempts to link it to security incidents, stating that “there appears to be a systematic effort to hold it responsible for any event with the aim of distorting the image of the resistance and its primary role, which is confronting the Israeli enemy in defense of Lebanon and its people,” according to the statement.
No further details were provided by Syrian authorities regarding the identities of those detained or the specifics of the alleged plot.
