Israeli army fires mortar shells toward central Quneitra countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army fired on Wednesday more than 20 mortar shells from the Syrian Golan Heights toward areas in the central countryside of Quneitra, according to a local source.
The shells landed in the area between the villages of al-Samdaniya al-Gharbiya and the Mantara Dam in central Quneitra countryside, the source told North Press.
The source stated that “the shells appeared to be part of training exercises, as they did not explode upon impact but instead emitted thick white smoke,” suggesting they were used in military drills or field maneuvers conducted by Israeli forces in the Golan.
No material damage or human casualties were reported as a result of the shelling, the source added.
Border areas in Quneitra countryside periodically witness military movements and exercises from the Israeli side, including the firing of shells or drills using non-live ammunition, which often raises concerns among local residents.
