QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed and three members of the same family were injured on Monday after a landmine exploded while their vehicle was passing through the al-Qatqut area in the al-Sukhnah desert, eastern Homs countryside, local sources said.
According to North Press correspondent, citing local sources, the explosion occurred as the family was traveling through the region, triggering the landmine and causing the immediate death of a child and injuries to three others.
The injured were transported to nearby medical points for treatment, the sources added, without providing further details on their condition.
Incidents involving landmines and unexploded ordnance remain frequent across Syria, particularly in desert areas, where remnants of war continue to pose a serious threat to civilians.
Large areas of the Syrian Badia, including parts of eastern Homs, witnessed extensive military operations over the past years, leaving behind mines and explosive remnants that have not yet been fully cleared.
