Two attacks target government forces in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen carried out on Tuesday night two separate attacks targeting government-affiliated security forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, leaving one security member injured and causing material damage.
A security source told North Press that unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle targeted a checkpoint using a hand grenade and automatic gunfire near the desert area of al-Dahla town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack injured one member stationed at the checkpoint, while the assailants fled the scene, according to the source.
In a separate incident in the town of Muhassan, east of Deir ez-Zor, unknown gunmen attacked a facility belonging to the government’s Internal Security Forces near the town’s entrance.
The assault triggered intermittent clashes between the attackers and security personnel before the gunmen withdrew. No casualties were reported, and the damage was limited to property.
Security officials did not immediately identify the perpetrators behind the attacks.
In a related development, the Internal Security Forces launched operations in the village of Hawaij Bumas’a, east of Deir ez-Zor, targeting individuals wanted on various security charges.
The operations resulted in the arrest of several suspects, the security source added.
Attacks by unidentified armed groups continue to occur in parts of Deir ez-Zor, where security forces periodically conduct raids and arrest campaigns against individuals accused of involvement in security-related incidents.
