Security forces arrest 9 ISIS suspects in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of Syria’s transitional government arrested on Sunday night nine people accused of belonging to the Islamic State in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A security source from the Internal Security in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the forces, together with the intelligence service, carried out three security operations following a period of surveillance and pursuit of suspected ISIS cells.

The raids targeted locations in the town of Abu Kamal and its surrounding countryside near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The operations resulted in the arrest of nine wanted individuals accused of affiliation with ISIS, the source said, noting that some of the detainees were allegedly involved in recent assassination operations targeting members of the Syrian government forces.

The source added that the Internal Security Forces seized light weapons, ammunition, and documents during the raids, some of which reportedly prove the suspects’ involvement with the extremist group.

Security operations against ISIS sleeper cells continue in eastern Syria, particularly in Deir ez-Zor, where authorities frequently carry out raids aimed at dismantling militant networks and preventing attacks.
