Assyrian organisation urges implementing March 10 agreement in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Assyrian Democratic Organization on Thursday called for the implementation of the March 10 agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), warning that recent military measures near Dayr Hafir, east of Aleppo, could signal preparations for a new escalation.
Gabriel Moshi, head of the organization’s Foreign Relations Office, told North Press that the Syrian transitional government’s decision to declare Dayr Hafir and areas east of Aleppo a military zone “indicates preparations for a military operation in the event that the Syrian Democratic Forces do not withdraw from those areas.”
He said the organization favors a negotiated settlement, adding: “We, as the Assyrian Democratic Organization, believe that the issues in Syria should be resolved peacefully and that there should be a quick return to the negotiating table to enter into talks between the Syrian government and the SDF in order to implement the March 10 agreement.”
Moshi said the agreement, signed between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF Commander General Mazloum Abdi, “serves the interests of all Syrians and resolves all outstanding issues through negotiations.”
He added: “Military solutions bring nothing but tragedies and deepen the divisions that already exist within Syrian society.”
According to Moshi, Damascus’s announcement of a military option in parts of Aleppo governorate is linked to what he described as “international consensus on the deployment of the Syrian government west of the Euphrates.”
He also called on all parties to halt incitement campaigns and hate speech, stressing the need to protect social cohesion in a country still emerging from years of conflict.
The March 10 agreement outlines a framework for dialogue and coordination between Damascus and the SDF, which controls large parts of northeast Syria and has played a central role in counterterrorism operations and maintaining security in areas administered by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Efforts to facilitate talks under the agreement are ongoing, according to sources familiar with the file, with no formal date yet announced for the next round of discussions.
