SDF reports civilian injuries in Deir Hafer shelling, downs drone in Raqqa
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday that three people were injured in heavy shelling targeting the town of Deir Hafer in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, while its units intercepted and downed a suicide drone in Raqqa’s countryside.
In a statement published on its official website, the SDF said that the “al-Amshat faction, affiliated with Damascus government forces, carried out an artillery and mortar attack on the center of Deir Hafer.”
The statement added that the bombardment also struck the nearby village of Um Adas, east of Deir Hafer. No confirmed details have yet emerged regarding the extent of damage or casualties beyond the reported injuries.
According to the SDF, the attacks coincided with an attempted drone strike in Raqqa’s eastern countryside. “Our forces successfully downed a suicide drone belonging to the same faction while it was flying over the skies of al-Jarniya town,” the statement read. The interception prevented any material or human losses.
The SDF emphasized that the escalation poses a direct threat to civilian safety and regional stability. The group has repeatedly warned that indiscriminate shelling and drone attacks undermine security in areas under the governance of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
