Trump praises Syrian progress, urges continued Israeli-Syrian dialogue
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump voiced on Monday strong satisfaction with what he described as “substantial progress” in Syria, crediting the lifting of U.S. sanctions and urging sustained diplomatic engagement between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
In a statement, Trump said the United States is “very satisfied with the results displayed, through hard work and determination, in the country of Syria,” adding that Washington is committed to ensuring that the Syrian government “continues to do what was intended… to build a true and prosperous country.”
Trump highlighted his decision to lift what he called “very strong and biting sanctions,” claiming the move was “truly appreciated by Syria, its leadership, and its people.”
The U.S. president also underscored the importance of a continued Israeli-Syrian dialogue, calling it essential to preventing disruptions to what he described as Syria’s “evolution into a prosperous state.”
According to Trump, Syria’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, “is working diligently to make sure good things happen, and that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together.”
He characterized the moment as “a historic opportunity” that builds on what he called growing “success for peace in the Middle East.”
The comments came as Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call on Monday.
In a statement posted on X, Netanyahu’s office said the two leaders “stressed the importance and obligation of disarming Hamas and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and discussed expanding the peace agreements.”
The prime minister’s office added that Trump invited Netanyahu to meet at the White House “in the near future.”
