Landmine blast Kills two government members In eastern Deir Ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two members of Syria’s government forces were killed on Monday after a landmine, described by a government source as a remnant of the conflict, exploded beneath their vehicle in the eastern Deir ez-Zor desert, North Press has learned.
A local government source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press the deceased were identified as “Ali Fayez al-Mohammad” and “Ahed Aswad al-Hosta.” The source said the explosion occurred while they were driving near the al-Sadd al-Wastani area in the Badia al-Boulail region east of Deir ez-Zor. Earlier on Monday, separate reporting indicated a child was killed and two other children wounded by the explosion of a cluster-munition sub-munition in the town of Tell Mennes in eastern Idlib, underscoring the wider danger posed by unexploded ordnance across multiple governorates. North Press has reported the Idlib incident based on local medical and field sources.
Explosive remnants of war—including landmines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded submunitions—continue to cause civilian and military casualties across Syria, particularly in former front lines and desert areas where fighting was intense.
