Israeli armoured vehicles enter Quneitra countryside after clashes
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli armoured vehicles advanced on Monday afternoon into Tal Abu Qubeis in the southern countryside of Quneitra, local residents and Syrian state media told North Press.
Residents in nearby villages said a force of tanks and military vehicles moved onto the heights of Tal Abu Qubeis, on the outskirts of the village of Ain Zaywan, where they established a temporary checkpoint and carried out searches of people passing through the area. Syrian state news agency SANA reported the deployment described as “a force including three tanks and two Hummers” ascending the hilltop.
The incursion follows heightened tensions in the sector after exchanges of fire last Friday in the Beit Jinn area, where clashes involving an Israeli patrol and local residents were reported. SANA said an Israeli strike on Beit Jinn the same day killed 13 people, including women and children, and wounded several others; SANA also reported that a number of Israeli soldiers were injured during the incident.
