Spain repatriates woman, child from ISIS families in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) handed over on Tuesday a woman and a child from families of the Islamic State (ISIS) to a Spanish delegation.
The AANES’s Foreign Relations Department received an official delegation from Spain headed by Gonzalo de Salazar, the Spanish Ambassador to Damascus, along with accompanying officials.
The delegation met with Gulistan Ali, Deputy Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department, Khaled Ibrahim, a member of the administrative body, and Lana Hussein, representative of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
The Department stated that discussions covered the overall situation in Syria, particularly in North and East Syria, the need to implement the March 10 agreement, and the ongoing negotiations between the AANES and the Syrian transitional government in Damascus.
According to the Department, Ambassador Gonzalo de Salazar praised the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for their role in combating ISIS. He also expressed concern about the security situation in the region, noting that despite its weakened state, the organization still poses a threat and that preventing ISIS’s resurgence remains essential.
