Massive blast at weapons depot in Idlib injures several, including children
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – An explosion at a weapons depot in the countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria, resulted on Wednesday in several injuries, including children.
Local sources told North Press that the blast took place inside a building used by the Turkistan Islamic Party as an ammunition depot in the town of Kafr Takharim, northwest of Idlib.
The explosion caused significant destruction at the site and shattered the windows of nearby homes, while the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the cause of the explosion. A government source told North Press that the depot was targeted by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, while other sources said the blast resulted from an unknown cause.
So far, no official authority has commented on the incident, and no party has claimed responsibility.
Sources added that the town saw a heavy deployment of ambulances rushing to transport the injured to nearby medical centers.
Civil defense teams continue to search the site amid concerns that additional victims may be trapped under the rubble. The nature of the materials that triggered the explosion remains unclear.
