Government forces arrest 3 individuals including drug dealer in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The security forces of the Syrian transitional government arrested on Tuesday evening three wanted individuals, including a major drug dealer, in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A security source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that officers raided the home of Abdul Basit al-Shukri, described as one of the largest drug dealers in the area, in the al-Joura neighborhood of Deir ez-Zor city.
The source added that al-Shukri was arrested with large quantities of narcotics in his possession.
Security patrols also raided a house in the al-Taiba neighborhood at the entrance of al-Mayadin town in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, detaining two individuals on security-related charges, including participation in attacks against security forces.
Among them was Firas al-Shehab, a former member of the National Defense Forces (NDF), a militia affiliated with the al-Assad regime, according to the same source.
The source further confirmed that while returning to Deir ez-Zor after the operations, patrols arrested an armed individual. He refused, however, to disclose the person’s affiliation or the party to which he belongs.
